Activation of your members...
02.03.10
Over the last couple days I have heard over and over again that we are getting the same people to show up to all of the events. How do we change this? Some of the things that I have learned are that it all goes back to your communication styles. How are you communicating with your members? Are you constantly sending out emails? Are you picking up the phone and doing personal invites? Maybe send them a post card to let them know you are thinking about them? These are all ways to get your communications out to your members. If you are used to email, I challenge you to not use it for one month and call people when you want to invite them to an event of get them involved.
Here are a few other items that you can also put into your membership playbook.
1. When you get a new member, get them involved right away with a new member project. Now it does not have to be a huge project, but something that you can work on with a current member. Such as plan a bowling outing, or a lunch bunch, or maybe you are all going to the Chambers business after hours. Never let that new member do it alone. Be there mentor and encourage them and guide them. (This is also great because it is a part of the state parade to do this with in the first 2 months of them being a member and you will get points.)
2. Enroll them in the Passport to Leadership Program. There are a lot of great resources for your members. Treat it as if they are building the Jaycee resume, which they can also use when they are applying for a new job. For information on the Passport to Leadership Program please email me and I will send you more info.
3. Social Media such as Facebook and twitter let's your members know what you have going on.
4. An updated newsletter helps to keep the members current.
5. Do you have a website? If not ask us how you can design your own page on the state website!
These are just a few ideas on how to get your members out there! Remember to have fun! Welcome everyone and remember that we are here to make a difference in our communities. We can only do this if we have the same mission.
It takes only one person to provoke positive change, but just think what we could do if everyone was on the same page.
Have a great day!
Yours in Jaycees,
President Abby
